Climate Change: Is It Something You Think About?

The fifth assessment of global climate (AR5) is in the process of slowly being disseminated to the public, and government officials by the IPCC – Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.  The entire assessment should be available by Fall, 2014.  I encourage you to visit: and take a peek at what the panel has to say about human caused climate change (global warming).  Let me state very clearly that it is not debatable that climate is changing, yes it is, just as it has been for the last 4.6 billion years, and will continue to do so until the sun turns us into another “Venus like” planet, in another 1.5 – 2 billion years, and then engulfs us completely in another four billion years, and the Earth will be no more – that is our reality.

The question then is not whether climate change is real, but rather, how much are human activities contributing to this change, and can we do anything about it.  What do you think?  Is the changing climate something you think about?  Is it something you worry about?  Do you think there is anything we can do as a society to alter this change?  Do you feel helpless to do anything, and feel like throwing your hands up in despair?  Perhaps you have a little of the “Chicken Little Complex,” and feel that “the sky is falling.”

Share your thoughts with me, I would love to know if you are optimistic, or pessimistic about the future of the Earth (a loaded question there I realize, so for this discussion, lets keep your optimism, or pessimism focused on climate, we can address things like overpopulation, soil degradation, water resources, etc., another time.).
